The conditions that need to be met for installing ship windows should comply with international conventions, rules, classification society regulations, and relevant provisions of the competent authorities of the country of registry.
1. Ships that need to meet the stability requirements for damaged cabins should be equipped with non openable portholes located below the final waterline of the damaged state and on the outer side of the damaged area that will be submerged in water.
2. Only heavy or medium portholes with permanent storm covers are allowed to be installed on the first level superstructure or deck room of the ship’s side outer panel or with a passage leading to below the freeboard deck.
3. Heavy or medium-sized portholes with permanent storm covers should be installed in the second level superstructure cabin with direct access to the enclosed first level superstructure or below the freeboard deck. In addition, the minimum position allowed for various portholes also depends on the strength of the type of porthole.
